Public Outreach
Westminster Astronomical Society, Inc. is constantly reaching out to the public through local festivals, schools, Boy and Girls
Scout troops, the local colleges and public star parties. WAS, inc. tries to plan at least two (sometimes more) star parties a month. Check our calendar for details.
Want to schedule a star party for your organization, school, church etc? Please contact us at least month ahead of time. We can provide some educational activities such as
build a scale model of the solar system, listen to myths of constellations, and "what is a telescope exactly?". We are more than willing to work with teachers and educators to provide an active hands-on astronomical event.
Our Public Star Parties are supported by NASA's Night Sky Network. NSN was founded in 2003, by Jet Propulsion Laboratory's (JPL's) Planetwatch program to form nationwide coalition of amateur astronomy clubs. Whose mission is to bring the science, technology and inspiration of NASA's missions to the general public. We share our time and telescopes to provide you with unique astronomy experiences at science museums, observatories, classrooms, and under the real night sky.
